Drone

A drone is a self-propelled device that is piloted remotely. Drones can be ground vehicles, boats, submarines, or aircraft (the most common). Drones are typically much smaller than a piloted vehicle built for the same purpose.

Drones are commonly equipped with cameras and used to capture images or video from high elevations. The development of low-cost drones made it possible to capture pictures and videos from these angles without using expensive piloted aircraft.

Militarized drones can be equipped with explosive charges to turn them into missiles, or the drone itself can carry weapon systems.

Some drones may have some ability to operate autonomously if they lose contact with their pilot, turning them into robots of a sort.
