Travis Mayweather is a spacer-hick who likes being the helmsman of something faster than a barge. He likes to pretend that his youth as a spacer makes him more qualified for space exploration than other members of the Enterprise crew, but he hardly saw anything but the inside of a freighter during all those years, so that experience is essentially worthless. No one cares what he likes.

He was the primary helmsman for the USS Enterprise.

Character Criticism

Travis is often cited as Enterprise's "Token Black Guy". The character was originally going to be a Lieutenant, but he was mysteriously demoted to Ensign after Anthony Montgomery was cast for the role. While a central character in a few first-season episodes, Travis slipped into obscurity as the series progressed and frequently failed to appear in episodes at all.
