Standard Template Construct (abbreviated to STC) refers to two specific things in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The first of which is a catagory of computer databases, the other being machinery based off designs from said databases.

History

During the period of Human Expansion before the birth of Slaanesh, Human colonization fleets were given Standard Template Construct Databases to allow them to develop and set up fuctioning civilization. Each of which contained a large portion of, if not all of Humanity's scientific knowledge and large amounts of blueprints for various machinery. Standard Template Construct designs were notable for being robust, easy to build and reliable.

After the birth of Slaanesh, Human Civilization fell apart due to Warp Storms which made intersteller travel often impossible. In the chaos this caused, all known STC units were either lost or destroyed, leaving only a smattering of printouts and incomplete files in their wake for latter civilizations to reclaim, most notably the Imperium. As STC units contain detailed technical specifications of ancient human technology far more advanced, the Adeptus Mechanicus strives to find whatever STC devices and blueprints they can find and the ultimate treasure to which the Adeptus Mechanicus would gladly sacrifice a dozen worlds to obtain would be a fuctional STC database.
