R2-D2 is an astromech droid in the Star Wars universe. It performed starship repair and navigation.
In the Prequels, it belongs first to Queen Amidala, then to Anakin Skywalker, and ends up on Alderaan with Leia. In the Original movies, it is owned (indirectly) by Princess Leia, and then by Luke Skywalker.
