Hoshi Sato is an insecure communications officer assigned to the USS Enterprise. She has an intuitive knack for languages that makes her a more effective translator than the computer programs designed for the task, but she persists in using the computer anyway.
Mirror Universe
In the Star Trek mirror universe, Hoshi was the "captain's woman" to Jonathan Archer. She took advantage of circumstances when the USS Defiant from the normal timeline fell into the mirror universe, assassinating Archer after he recovered the futuristic starship and using it to declare herself Empress (ENT "In a Mirror, Darkly").
