In internet terms, Epic Fail is usually someone who attempts to do something noteworthy, and fails utterly.

While originally used to deride an individual who had come severely short of fulfilling a lofty ambition, it is now chiefly a means of identifying those who can't express themselves in anything other than fads and catchphrases.
In terms of Starwars Vs Startrek, this usually means someone who supports trek  and, apon noticing that some people actually support the other side (how could they possibly!) they go right into the lions den and claim either

The arguments themselves however do not make it an epic fail, The fact that apon being called on this, the all to common reverting to type happens. Usually this involves,
lashing out at everyone around them,
Claiming they got there information from a VERY educated highschool teacher (See: Lie),
Running away to another site
(One filled to the brim with trekkies naturally, because you can only get a really fair and balanced argument from them),
Calling everyone horrible people
(usually coupled with the stunning revelation that, neither starwars or startrek are real),
Threatening to send someone to internet court
(for a charge that chances are he pulled out of his ass and wouldnt go through with EVEN IF he knew what he was talking about),
Deleting everything that makes him look bad (Maturity is very important to the Trek community),
Or push comes to shove, Quitting the Internet.
(Note: usually they only claim to quit the internet, they come back later claiming actually to have won and/or destroyed every argument given to them, usually this is coupled with Deleting Everything, or Claiming your own posts got edited)
