David Gerrold is a Hugo and Nebula-award winning science fiction author. He is best known for writing the Star Trek episode "The Trouble with Tribbles." He also wrote two episodes of the Star Trek animated series, where he gave "Tiberius" as Kirk's middle name.

In the 1970s, he wrote two Trek-related non-fiction books: "The Trouble With Tribbles" and "The World of Star Trek."

He later wrote the bible for Star Trek: The Next Generation, inventing the "Away Team" (instead of having senior officers beam into combat zones), adding a Klingon and a counselor to the crew, and allowing crew to bring their spouses and children along.
