The Boonta Eve Classic was a podrace held on Tatooine to honor Boonta the Hutt, victor in the Hutt battle against the Parliament of Moralan. At one time, it was a popular way for directors to pad out a film without advancing the plot.
32 years before the Battle of Yavin, Anakin Skywalker won his freedom in a podrace.
