The Ambassador-class is model of Federation starship developed in the late 23rd or early 24th century.

Technical Data

There is little technical information available on the Ambassador-class. In an alternate timeline, the crew of the Enterprise-D described the Ambassador-class Enterprise-C as a little old, but still serviceable in their dwindling fleet (TNG, "Yesterday's Enterprise"). Commander Data once described an Ambassador-class starship as a "heavy cruiser" (TNG, "Conspiracy").

History

The Ambassador-class starship USS Enterprise responded to a distress call from a Klingon outpost that was under attack by three Romulan warbirds. The Enterprise was destroyed in the battle, but the Klingons regarded their actions as honorable, and the incident paved the way for the formation of an alliance between the Federation and the Klingon Empire.
