X-wing
The X-wing starfighter is the most famous starfighter in use by the Rebel Alliance.
The X-wing is a well-rounded Variable Geometry Space Superiority Starfighter. Its armament consists of four very long laser cannons at the ends of its wings and a pair of proton torpedo tubes in the fuselage. Its deflector shield system often allows it to take several hits from other starfighter weapons before being disabled or destroyed. Conversely, a single full power hit from an X-wing was often all that was needed to disable or kill a TIE Fighter. However, the X-wing was a fighter of only intermediate acceleration.
X-wings are built by Incom. Following the company's nationalization by the Empire, production was scattered to machine shops across the galaxy.
