West End Games (WEG) is a game company that produced the first Star Wars role-playing game. WEG produced several sourcebooks for the game, and these were the only licensed sources of information about some elements of the Star Wars universe for some time, although the information they contain is often contradictory or inconsistent with what is seen in the movies or with reality itself. It may be unfair to blame them for these errors, though, as their goal was playability and not accuracy towards the films. Nonetheless, many Star Wars authors (including Timothy Zahn) drew heavily upon WEG sourcebooks when writing their novels.

Lucasfilm eventually transferred the license to make Star Wars RPG products to Wizards of the Coast.
