In 2375, the USS Defiant (NX-74205) was destroyed at the Second Battle of Chin'toka. For the next few months, Starfleet and the Romulans were working on a countermeasure against the Breen weapon. In mid 2375, the Cardassian Rebels handed Starfleet a Jem'Hadar Attack Ship equipped with a Breen energy dampener. A few weeks later, Starfleet and the Romulans successfully created a defense against the weapon. Admiral Ross sent the USS São Paulo to Deep Space 9. It was renamed USS Defiant. In the Battle of Cardassia, the new USS Defiant, fought exceptionally well in the battle.
