Trilithium is an exotic material produced as a byproduct of Federation warp core operations (TNG "Starship Mine"). It is dangerously unstable, and consequently it is often used in the creation of terrorist weapons. It can even have the effect of rendering a planet dangerous to human life, depending on the configuration.[1]

Trilitium was a critical component of Dr. Soran's star-collapsing weapon in Star Trek: Generations.
