My choice of terms may not be entirely standard for the IT industry, but I think I've covered most of the basic issues. --Ted C 08:52, 22 February 2008 (EST)

With regard to VOY "Investigations", is there good reason to believe that Neelix should not have had access to that terminal? Federation computers use voice recognition to identify users, so there's no reason he shouldn't be able to open a terminal by voice command, unless that terminal has other restrictions. --Ted C 11:26, 19 February 2013 (EST)

  • The problem with it is that the code Neelix uses in an High Level Engineering (it will open anything as Torres uses it earlier in the episode) code. So as Chuck has pointed out either Neelix has been cleared for high level clearance in Engineering or anyone who uses that code can unlock anything. Either doesn't look very well.
    • A "master key" command code would hardly be any stupider than the "prefix code" that lets you remotely take control of a Federation starship. My guess is that anyone could use it. --Ted C 15:52, 19 February 2013 (EST)
      • Having watched "Investigations" again it seems fairly clear now that the only reason that Neelix knew the Engineering code is because he heard Torres use it in front of him. This means that if the way the episode is presented that the code is indeed a Master code and will work no matter who uses it. This is a massive security canyon that leaves the ship very vulnerable. Sigh, Neelix the idiot who keeps on giving when it comes to stupid ideas. --Isolder74 10:55, 2 July 2014 (EDT)
