It seems to me that it would have been smarter just to quietly return to the planet and set up a So'na colony far away from the Ba'ku, visiting as often as necessary to remain young and healthy.  It's not like the Ba'ku were using technology to monitor events outside their village; the Federation would hardly have been able to construct their "duck blind" if the Ba'ku were using advanced sensors to keep watch for intruders.

Why not just leave?

When the Ba'ku youths who would become the So'na expressed their desire to leave the planet, I suspect that the elders tried to stop them. The elders presumably feared that the secret of the metaphasic radiation would be leaked to other civilizations, which would seek out the planet to try to take advantage of it. Obviously the So'na did find a way off the planet, yet they kept their knowledge of the metaphasic radiation to themselves until time caught up with them, forcing them to seek the Federation's help to harvest the metaphasic particles to rejuvenate themselves.

--Ted C 16:28, 15 February 2008 (EST)

Wasn't the punishment for the Son'a revolt banishment from the planet. Not something you do if you want to keep the fountain of youth a secret. But again, we only have the word of the Ba'ku to go on as to what happened. Remember the old saying, history is written by the victors.--Darth Servo 23:43, 15 February 2008 (EST)
Maybe it was, but how were the Ba'ku enforcing such banishment when they weren't using any advanced technology. --Ted C (talk) 13:50, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
