Star Trek: The Next Generation

Star Trek: The Next Generation (commonly abbreviated TNG) is the second live-action Star Trek TV series. The show ran from 1987 through 1994. The show chronicles the adventures of the Enterprise-D as it continues the mission of its predecessors: to explore strange new worlds and boldly go where no one has gone before.

It introduces us to the time when most of Star Trek lore occurs. Both DS9 and Voyager occur in this period as well as four of the full length feature films. The show brings back many of the common aliens from TOS like the Vulcans and Klingons, while introducing us to many new societies in the Star Trek galaxy, including Q, the Cardassians, the Ferengi and the Borg.

TNG was the Star Trek series over which Gene Roddenberry exercised the most creative control. It can therefore be regarded as the series that most accurately reflects his vision of the Federation.
