Sockpuppet

A sockpuppet is a extra user account on a bulletin board (or in some other interactive environment) that someone uses to make comments that won't be associated with his or her normal identity. For instance, a user making a controversial argument might use one or more sockpuppet accounts to make additional posts agreeing with the statements made from his normal account, creating a false base of support for the argument. Users may also use sockpuppets to engage in trollish or forbidden activity, hoping to keep those actions from being associated with their primary user account.
