Jaffa are a genetically engineered offshoot of Humanity created by the Goa'uld to serve as warriors, vehicle crews, and incubators for their young. Until recently, the overwhelming majority of the Jaffa worshiped the Goa'uld as gods, a scenario that only changed due to the efforts of Teal'c and his Master, Bra'tac.

The highest-ranking bad-guy Jaffa are the System Lords, a small group who command the Goa'uld factions.

The good-guy Jaffa are the Tok'ra who are symbiotes with their Goa'uld hosts rather than slaves.

To O'Neill, they're all snakeheads.
