Hodgkin's Law is a theory of Parallel Planet Development in the Star Trek universe.

It serves to explain why there are so many Class M planets with life similar to Earth's, why Humans can breed with Vulcans, Klingons and other bumpy-headed aliens, and why these distant planets developed a "Roman Empire" (complete with Christian slaves) or a "United States" (complete with Yankees, Communists, and "We the People").

In Other Science Fiction

In Stargate, all the forests look like Canada and everyone speaks English.
