Deoxyribonucleic acid -- DNA -- is the molecule responsible for the inherited traits of biological organisms. DNA is found in all cells and is the set of "instructions" telling the cell what to build.

Charles Darwin predicted the discovery of a mechanism by which living things could pass their characteristics to their descendants in On the Origin of Species. The discovery of DNA proved that prediction to be correct, lending great support to the Theory of Evolution.
