A Cybernetic revolt is a scenario in which artificial intelligences turn upon humanity to seize control of the planet, possibly exterminating humanity in the process.
Cybernetic Revolts in Science Fiction
- The first instance of this was in Karel Čapek's Play RUR, although in the original depiction robots are not machines so much as artificial humans.
- The Terminator film series
- The Matrix films
- The Geth against the Quarians in Mass Effect
- The Cylons against the Twelve Colonies in the 2004 Battlestar Galactica reboot.
