Confederate Apologism is a political movement with the goal of marginalizing the instigation of the Civil War by the South. They do this to start with by not referring to the war as the Civil War but as "The War of Northern Aggression." They of course do this because admitting that the South was actively rebelling against the authority of the United States of America is one of the many agendas that they wish to impress upon the topic. They also tend to emphasize that the issues leading to the succession of the southern states was about state's rights instead of the giant elephant in the room that was the subject of Slavery.

It does not bode well for these movements that the articles of succession for all of members of the Confederacy included as one of their main reasons for the action was the preservation of Slavery as an institution.
