Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (コードギアス 反逆のルルーシュ Kōdo Giasu: Hangyaku no Rurūshu) is a very popular mecha anime made by Sunrise, directed by Gorō Taniguchi, and written by Ichirō Ōkouchi. CLAMP made the character designs. It takes place in an alternate reality in which Rome never conquered the British Isles.

The series is set in a world with three global super-powers, the strongest by the Britannia Empire, a nation that rules a 3rd of the world. Countries it takes over by Britanna are stripped of everything, even their names and simply referred as "Areas", named in the order they are conquered, and the citizens of them are referred to as "numbers". The series focuses an exiled prince of Britainia name Lelouch, whom taking up the alias of a rebel named Zero, leads a rebellion against Britiannia's rule in Japan.

Reception

Code Gease has been well-received by critics and has established a very wide fan base. It's been praised for its unique and dark plot, and character development. It has spawned 3 manga spinoffs since its 2nd season ended.
