Avatar is a science fiction film directed by James Cameron, released in 2009. It is notable for being the highest grossing film of all time. It is not to be confused with Avatar: The Last Airbender. A sequel is currently in the works

Setting

Avatar takes place on Pandora, a moon in which RDA, a mining company, has set up a mining colony.

Reception and Debate Position

Avatar's reception has been somewhat mixed, mainly over the fact that large sections of its plot have been used multiple times over by earlier films (such as Dances with Wolves and Ferngully: The Last Rainforest).

Despite that, it has been a big-budget hit and has come up in verses debates. That said, its ranking is fairly low. Typical scenarios involve ground combat against the Na'vi and/or RDA Marines by small numbers of forces or survival in the dangerous jungles of Pandora.
