An avatar, in the context of message boards and other online fora, is a small image used as a virtual representation of an individual. Many boards consider the display of an avatar as a privilege, and indeed one of the punishments for violation of the board rules on SDN is the loss of that privilege.

Stardestroyer.net has a 100x100 resolution and a 6kb file size limitation for avatars, leading to quite a few threads asking for help shrinking images down to size.
