While working for Tarkin, Akbar paid close attention to Imperial operations that Tarkin was involved in. After being rescued from captivity he served in the Rebel operations that lead to the liberating of his home world from the control of the Empire and made the Calamari shipyards available to the Alliance for the production of capitol ships for the rebellion's navy. Soon he was in charge of the now growing Rebel navy and rose in the ranks becoming the chief admiral in charge of Rebel naval operations.
