Ackbar was a Mon Calamari admiral who served with the Rebel Alliance fleet (most notably commanding the Rebel fleet at the Battle of Endor) and later, the New Republic Navy.

Career

Clone Wars

Ackbar began his public career as Captain of the Guard on his homeworld, helping defeat a Separatist occupation following the assassination of King Kolina and establishing Prince Lee-Char as the new ruler of Mon Cala.[1]

Rebellion Against the Empire

Following the establishment of the Galactic Empire, Mon Cala was subjugated, and Ackbar was enslaved. Whether it was luck or misfortune, he ended up being the personal slave of Imperial Grand Moff Tarkin. While working for Tarkin, Ackbar paid close attention to the Imperial operations that Tarkin was involved in. Ackbar was liberated from slavery when an espionage operation intended to capture Tarkin resulted in the disabling and boarding of a shuttle supposedly carrying Tarkin. The Rebel operatives had gotten their intelligence wrong, and only managed to board a shuttle transporting Ackbar and some other minor members of Tarkin's personal entourage.

After being rescued from captivity, Ackbar served in the Rebel operations that lead to the liberating of his home world from the control of the Empire and made the Mon Calam shipyards available to the Alliance for the production of capitol ships for the Rebellion's navy. Soon he was in charge of the now growing Rebel navy and rose in the ranks to become the chief admiral in charge of Rebel naval operations. While serving in the Rebel navy, he was part of the design team that designed the B-wing starfighter. He served as the primary naval commander of the Rebel forces taking part of the Battle of Endor.
