It describes the hunt for, and a journey on, the advanced submarine Nautilus, designed and operated by the enigmatic Captain Nemo. It is considered a literary classic, in no small part because of Verne's ability to present a plausible extrapolation of the future of submersible craft, which were largely experimental at the time.
