The Bothans have a small history of refusing to use standard-issue blaster rifles, and instead employ the use of incinerator pistols.

Jar-Jar Binks is a Gungan who is perhaps the most despised character in Star Wars.

Comic Relief Disaster
In Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon Jinn encounters Jar-Jar shortly after arriving on the surface of Naboo. Qui-Gon saves the Gungan from being run down by a Trade Federation troop transport, and the Gungan attaches himself to the Jedi Knight in order to repay the "life debt" that he has incurred. While occasionally useful as a native guide and contact with the Gungan leadership, Jar-Jar is also a perpetual nuisance and generally incompetent. Later in the movie, Binks was appointed "Bombad General" by Boss Nass. He later proved incapable of this military position and was relieved of his duties. The character seems to exist largely to provide comic relief in the form of physical humor.

Empire Builder
In Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Jar-Jar mercifully plays a far smaller role. He is part of Senator Amidala's entourage on Coruscant, and she inexplicably leaves him to speak for her when she returns to Naboo to hide from assassins. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine easily manipulates Jar-Jar into proposing the Senate motion that will grant him emergency powers to raise an army with which to fight the Separatists, thus making Jar-Jar instrumental in the downfall of the Republic.

Afterthought
Jar-Jar appears briefly in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith as a mourner at Padmé Amidala's funeral.

The ASVS Theory
A popular theory on ASVS around the time that TPM was released was that Jar-Jar was supposed to be a loveable character that the audience could identify with and be sympathetic to, making it a shock for him to be eventually murdered by Anakin when he turned to the Dark Side. Unfortunately, the unpopular reaction to Jar-Jar in TPM relegated him to obscure background shots and single lines in AOTC and ROTS, removing him from assassination.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a Jedi Knight of the Galactic Republic. He taught both Anakin and Luke Skywalker about the Force.

Early Life
Obi-wan Kenobi was possibly born on the planet Alderaan. He was discovered at a young age by Jedi Master Mace Windu, and was brought to the Jedi Temple. At the age of eleven, he became an apprentice under Qui-Gon Jinn.

The Phantom Menace
Chronologically in Star Wars Obi-Wan first appears as Qui-Gon Jinn's apprentice as the two of them are investigating the Trade Federation's blockade of Naboo and failed attempt to bring the Neimoidians to the negotiating table.

Obi-Wan assumes the responsibility for training young Anakin Skywalker upon the death of his master, Qui-Gon.

Attack of the Clones
Obi-Wan is responsible for investigating the attempted assassination of senator Padmé Amidala. The investigation leads to the discovery of the clone army, commissioned shortly after the events of TPM. Tracking Jango Fett, the gene donor for the clones, leads him to Geonosis, where the leaders of several large corporations are meeting to discuss seceding from the Republic. There he learns that Count Dooku is apparently orchestrating the movement. These discoveries lead to the Clone Wars, with Dooku leading the disaffected corporations in the creation of the Confederacy of Independent Systems

Revenge of the Sith
Obi-Wan, along with several other Jedi, has become a general in the Grand Army of the Republic. He helps lead the rescue of Chancellor Palpatine, who had been captured and is being held aboard the Invisible Hand, the flag ship of the CIS mastermind, General Grievous.

He also leads the attack on the planet Utapau. During the battle, General Grievous is killed by Obi-Wan, and the remainder of the CIS leaders flee to Mustafar.

He learns of Anakin's turn to the darkside of the Force and tracks his former pupil to Mustafar. The two engage in a lightsabre duel which ends with Anakin being severly wounded. Obi-Wan leaves his former friend for dead and returns to Amidala's ship. He rendezvous with Yoda and the leaders of what will become the Rebellion against the Galactic Empire. Here, Padmé gives birth to Luke and Leia ,who are split up, Obi-Wan taking the infant Luke to Tatooine to be raised by the Lars.

A New Hope
Obi-Wan rescues Luke Skywalker from an attack by Sand People and learns of the desperate situation the rebellion is in with the completion of the Empire's new terror weapon, the Death Star. Obi-Wan invites Luke to accompany him but Luke is reluctant until he learns that Imperial Stormtroopers have killed his aunt and uncle and destroyed his home. Obi-Wan begins teaching Luke about the Force but the training is interrupted when their ship, the Millennium Falcon is captured by the Death Star, and Obi-Wan is killed by Darth Vader. However, his "ghost" continues to give Luke guidance from beyond, helping the young Skywalker use the Force to destroy the Death Star.

The Empire Strikes Back
The ghost of Obi-Wan appears to Luke Skywalker on the planet Hoth instructing Luke to seek out Yoda on Degobah. He further tries to disuade Luke from ending his training prematurely and not fall into the trap set by Darth Vader on Bespin.

Return of the Jedi
Obi-Wan's ghost appears briefly to comfort Luke after the death of Yoda and confirm that Darth Vader is indeed Luke's father.

Grand Master Yoda was the leader of the Jedi council in the first three Star Wars movies, and in the last two he trained one last student in the ways of the Jedi. Yoda was a master of acrobatic lightsabre combat as well as being powerful enough to dispel Force Lightning with his bare hands. Previously, Yoda's species was unknown, but recent developments in the Star Wars mythology hint that Yoda is theoretically a Gree (an extinct species of alien).

Yoda the Master
Yoda was the oldest Jedi Master on the Council and indeed was often seen as the very personification of the Jedi Order. Despite his wizened and worn character, Yoda remained shockingly spry for a creature of his advanced years, and he was more than able to turn backflips and somersaults in his battles against his renegade former padawan, Count Dooku.

Yoda was one of several Jedi masters who never fully accepted Anakin Skywalker into the Jedi Order. Although he allowed both the boy's acceptance and his promotion to Jedi Knight, Yoda always felt that Anakin would have a disruptive effect on the Jedi.

Yoda was defeated in battle by Darth Sidious and forced to flee in the aftermath of Order 66.

Yoda the Hermit
Following the events of Revenge of the Sith, Yoda hid himself away on the distant planet of Dagobah. Here he would live out the last 22 or so years of his life, and in his twilight years train Luke Skywalker in the Jedi arts. However, Yoda never seemed confident of Luke's ability to overcome his father's legacy.

Skills and Abilities
Master Yoda was probably the most powerful Jedi of his day, though he was arguably rivaled by Mace Windu and would surely have been surpassed by Anakin if not for his fall to the Dark Side and subsequent crippling injuries on Mustafar. Yoda fought the Sith Lord Count Dooku to a standstill, and even survived a dual with Darth Sidious. During both of these confrontations, Yoda demonstrated powerful telekinetic abilities with the Force, including stopping the fall of a massive column during his duel with Dooku and stopping a senate pod hurled at him by Sidious, which he then sent hurtling back at the Sith. Yoda was also a master with the lightsabre, using a form which emphasised agility to overcome his small size and advanced age. Additionally, he was unusual among Jedi of the Clone Wars era in that he demonstrated some tactical skill at commanding a large scale battle.

Renowned for his wisdom, Yoda nonetheless clung to the ways of the old Jedi, which helped alienate Anakin Skywalker and contributed to his fall to the Dark Side. According to the Revenge of the Sith novelization, Yoda realized during his duel with Sideous that he could not win, due to the Jedi's failure to adapt under his leadership. This epiphany may have influenced him in his decision to allow Luke and Leia to be raised with families, contrary to the traditional Jedi view which emphasized a lack of personal attachments.
