Qui-Gon Jinn

Qui-Gon Jinn is a Jedi Master appearing in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. He is currently training Obi-Wan Kenobi. Although a master, he is not a member of the Jedi council due to his defiance of the council and unwillingness to follow the Jedi code.

He is the Jedi who first discovers Anakin Skywalker as a slave on Tatooine and the young child's unusually high midichlorian count and sensitivity to the Force. He wins Anakin's freedom from Watto by betting on Anakin winning the Boonta Eve Classic pod race. He is convinced Anakin is the "Chosen One" in a Jedi prophecy who will bring balance to the force.

He returns to Naboo where he and Obi-Wan encounter the Sith apprentice Darth Maul. After a long lightsabre duel, Maul kills Qui-Gon in the Theed Palace.
