The Canadian Halifax-class frigate HMCS St. John's (FFH-340)
The Halifax-class Patrol Frigate (hull designation FFH) is a class of 12 multirole patrol frigates operated by the Royal Canadian Navy since 1992. It was developed from the Canadian Patrol Frigate project in the 1970s and 80s to replace the aging Annapolis, Mackenzie, Restigouche, and St. Laurent-class warships. The Halifax-class frigates were constructed and commissioned throughout the 1990s. In 2007, the Canadian government began the Frigate Life Extension program to extensively upgrade the Halifax-class vessels.
