It's my lovely Rebecca, having a little fun in the hotel
(we went away for the Easter weekend and left the kids with
my parents). |
 |
The lighting in there wasn't great, so the no-flash pictures
tended to be a bit grainy. Mind you, I probably could have
compensated by playing with the exposure and ISO settings on
my camera, but I was in a bit of a hurry so I just left it
on "Auto".
One of the problems we've always had taking pictures with her
is that she tends to blink when the flash goes off. I don't
know how her eyes can react so quickly because mine can't,
but it's really hard to do flash photography with her without
getting a blink. |
 |
See what I mean? |
 |
This picture was really dark, because it was taken in a corner
of the room which was lit with only one small lamp (you can see it at
the left-hand side of the frame). In fact, it was unusably grainy,
but I took three shots in rapid succession and averaged them to bring
the graininess down (you can use the convert -average file1.jpg
file2.jpg file3.jpg output.bmp function in imagemagick on linux
to do that). But at least she didn't blink! |
 |
Finally, a flash photography shot where she didn't blink! It really
makes a difference being able to use that flash, although she
probably still would have blinked if I pointed it right at her.
I usually bounce the flash off the ceiling when indoors. |

David's birthday party. We gave up on structured birthday parties a
long time ago. Nowadays, we just turn 'em loose, they grab a bunch of
toy swords and guns, and have at it.
|
 |
We always have a big water-gun fight in the backyard at these parties.

David and his friends being silly.

The lighting of the cake, with special showcase on my smooth head.

And of course, the opening of the presents. Apparently, with armed guard.

Detroit is a disaster, but the GM Renaissance Center is quite nice. And
they have a mint condition vintage 1953 Corvette inside!
Coolest car ever.

Rebecca standing in front of the Renaissance Center and demonstrating
the fine ass cleavage that I dream about at night.
|
 |
The Renaissance Center itself. It's a nice building, but it's also kind
of surreal to visit there. For one thing, as soon as you drive any
appreciable distance from the building, you quickly run into abandoned
tenements. Parts of the community look like a ghost town, and I would
hate to go wandering around there at night!
Another thing that struck me was the race/class divide. In the Renaissance
Center in Detroit, almost all of the service industry people are black. At
the same time, almost all of the customers are white. Visually, the result
is that everywhere you look, you see black people serving white people.
Not good.

David playing soccer in the championship game of his division. We
nicknamed the other team "The Pumpkins" because of their
orange uniforms.
|
 |
It didn't take too long before David's team build up a 3 goal cushion.
|
 |
They won it walking away, with a 7-0 final score. David was very happy
to receive his trophy and a pat on the back from coach.
