The Jedi probably used telekinesis to repel large pieces of debris, and cut up smaller pieces.
I mean, that's what Yoda did against Dooku. Plus, the debris came from mostly one direction,
so the Jedi would know that it's coming. As for the toxic gasses, Qui-gon and Obi-wan were able
to survive the nerve gas in TPM, and the Nemoidians would have left the doors closed long enough
to kill the Jedi (they hoped).
